A New Garden Room for Wrexham Couple
Severn Oak recently designed and built a bespoke garden room for a unique property in Wrexham. As oak timber frame specialists, we worked with the clients to find a practical and beautiful solution to their project needs.
Judy and Joff Evans moved into their Wrexham home, Oak Lodge, as they had fallen in love with the stunning views of the garden and surrounding fields. However, due to the high windows of the house, these views were hard to enjoy.
As well as looking for a way to make the most of the location and bring the garden and natural light into their home, Judy and Joff also wanted an extension which they could use as an extra sitting and dining room. They needed a company who could deliver a result combining all of these aspects in a natural and attractive design, so they came to Severn Oak.
Our solution was a garden room which would be built onto the back of the house, featuring floor-to-ceiling windows and double doors set into a timber frame. As well as giving them the additional space they wanted, it would open the house to the lovely views they had been missing out on. We also decided to add a large skylight, allowing in even more natural light over what would become the dining area.
Judy and Joff had the opportunity to revise plans as the project went along, meeting with our architect, reviewing the blueprints and discussing other possibilities. When the final design was agreed upon, the couple were confident in the knowledge that it would suit them and their home.
“Severn Oak were good at listening to what we wanted and good at responding to enquiries in a courteous and professional way,” said Judy. “We could see that we would get something that was tailored to our needs and aspirations, as opposed to something which was mass produced.”
Joff said, “All communication with the staff was very friendly but also courteous and professional. We were always the client and any request we made was responded to appropriately and punctually.”
The garden room now provides a light, warm and airy space to relax in, with plenty of room for a dining table and chairs as well as lounge furniture. It combines a modern, open extension with a distinctive frame of oak visible on the interior and exterior. Judy and Joff can now sit back and fully enjoy the views the Welsh countryside has to offer.
Joff said, “It has definitely met our expectations and our aspirations… we just need to find some time to sit down in it now!”
“All staff involved with Severn Oak were very polite and conducted themselves in a very professional manner,” Judy added. “They were trying to work through some extremely cold conditions and always did this with a smile on their face! Continue the good work you are doing.”
